The first day of e-filing is January 13th, but NYS e-filing won't be available this year until January 17th. I will be available for evening appointments on Mondays and Wednesdays again this year for those who can't make it during the day or Saturdays. If the scheduled times don't work for you, let me know. I'll try to accommodate your need for a different time if at all possible. I am so happy to announce that my dear friend and colleague, Colleen Sager, has come on board with me and will be helping me with tax preparation and is here as Unison’s new Bookkeeping Consultant.  So if any of you business owners need some help setting up or preparing your books, preparing your sales tax returns, etc. give us a call.

Some highlights of changes this year:

Many of the tax changes that were put into effect in 2010 still remain in 2011. There is still the residential energy credit for you homeowners, although the amount of the credit has decreased. Education credits are still available, so make sure to let me know if you have anyone in College. The making work pay credit is no longer, so many of us are going to see a reduction in our refunds this year. Some of you had qualified for the first time homebuyer credit in 2008 and must continue to pay that back. The government is not sending out reminders this year, so you'll have to remember to let me know yourselves. If the repayment is not included on the return, the return will be rejected and your refund will be held up.
